Trendlines in Ethics: Rethinking Financial Disclosures for the Modern Era

Nearly all states and the federal government require certain officials to annually disclose income and assets. But, many of the disclosure forms were designed in an era where investments and assets were relatively straight-forward. Cryptocurrencies, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), meme-coins, bespoke security funds, prediction markets, etc. – do the current disclosure forms adequate capture all the new ways that officials receive and hold valuable income and assets? In this session, we will discuss areas for concern, and areas ripe for improvement. Hear about what other states are doing to ensure that their reporting and disclosure programs are robust and complete.
